SightPlus at the workplace
SightPlus has been described as a portable CCTV magnifier. In the workplace, it can be used to read documents; to work on a computer, to navigate easier on the screen and read what can’t be enlarged; to follow presentations and conferences and to perform hands-free activities.
It can significantly improve the visual performance of the user and facilitate the completion of a wide range of static activities.
It is not a device to be worn all the time and not to be used as a mobility aid.
Testimonials in the workplace
“I’ve been using SightPlus for a few months now and they’ve made a big difference to my work as a teacher. Since my eyesight deteriorated, I’ve had to use large equipment linked to my computer to help me read pupils’ books. SightPlus goggles are far more practical, mobile, and allow me to adjust their settings according to light conditions which is very important to me. I really like being able to read documents anywhere instead of having to be sat in front of a computer. They’ve also generated a lot of curiosity from my pupils!
Access to Work and my employer funded the purchase of the goggles as my school could see how I benefited from using them at work.
They are so easy to use and are surprisingly comfortable to wear. I strongly recommend giving them a try.” Andrew, 33, central vision loss
“SightPlus allowed to see things that were further away comfortably, it was easy to use, at work I was able to sit comfortably and see the computer.” Richard, 45, tunnel vision.
SightPlus for Education
SightPlus has been described as a portable CCTV magnifier. At schools or universities, it can help to follow lectures by reading what Teachers/Professors write on the board. Most of the lectures will be shared digitally. However, it doesn’t cover all the information discussed during a class. This is where SightPlus makes a real difference. In addition, accessing books at the library without relying on their digital version can be an option for some partially sighted people. Any DIY activities related to arts and music can be performed with SightPlus as it is a hands-free solution.
It can significantly improve the visual performance of the user and facilitate the completion of a wide range of static activities during lectures, to study or engage better during events.
It is not a device to be worn all the time and not to be used as a mobility aid.
Testimonials in Education
SightPlus has shown significant impact in education. Teachers have highlighted advantages about the device such as its multipurpose use supporting a user to access information that can’t be digitalised (e.g: when a teacher writes on the board) or that is difficult to enlarge (e.g: weight of books when the font is increased from 11 to 18) and its hands-free use enabling more engagement in maths and arts.
Suzanne, a teaching assistant for two visually impaired kids explains: “After just a couple of weeks using SightPlus, Harry, 10 years old, said he would now choose this as his preferred tool over an enlarged book or using his iPad. The goggles have made a huge impact in maths lessons. The boys could never read angles on a protractor or measurements on a ruler […]”
We work mostly with kids in primary school but Toria, 16 years old, is a perfect example where the device played a role in passing national exams. She commented: “I would love to talk more about the educational side and uses of SightPlus as I feel they were a major help in the GCSE period.
SightPlus was particularly helpful in the essay-based subjects such as English, as it took a large strain off of my eyes and meant that I could read what I had written many times as well as being able to see the given texts very easily (which is usually a huge struggle for me when I am faced with a large amount of text).
I was able to see the clock in the exam hall very clearly from whichever distance I was sat at, this was the same for the start and end time of the exams which were written on the board.”
