Technical Support Frequently Asked Questions

Wireless – No connection and/or Internet

No internet despite saying connected?

If you are finding that you can no longer get internet access despite your computer saying it is connected to your wireless network try the follow steps:

  1. Re-start your computer.
  2. Re-set your router, this can be done by disconnecting the power to the router for at least 30 seconds then reconnect and wait at least another 30 seconds for your router to re-set.
  3. Check signal strength is at least 2 bars. As anything less than this may cause your browser to time out before it receives the information.

If this does not resolve the problem check the internet status to your house by getting in contact with your internet service provider.

Cannot connect to your wireless network?

If steps 1 and 2 (above) did not resolve the problem you can try the following steps which will effectively reset your wireless driver settings and configuration. Please only continue if you are confident to do so.

Re-installing Driver

  1. Right click ‘My Computer’ on your desktop and select ‘Manage’
  2. Select ‘Device Manager’

  4. Select ‘Uninstall’ and agree to the confirmation box that pops up. This will remove the driver from being installed on your system.
  5. Under the ‘Action’ Menu select ‘Scan for hardware changes’. This will search and detect any hardware that is physically present in your system without drivers and install relevant drivers it can find.

Clearing Preferred Wireless Networks

  1. Open ‘Network Connections’ located ‘Start>Control Panel’.
  2. Right click and select ‘Properties’ on your wireless card.
  3. Click on the ‘Wireless Networks’ tab at the top.

  4. If not already ticked, tick the option ‘Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings’
  5. In the ‘Preferred networks’ list select and remove all items in the list.

All the settings should now be set back to default and you should be able to browse for wireless networks in range. If you can now connect to your wireless network but still no internet try calling your internet service provider to check their internet status.
