Welcome to April’s Newsletter; I do hope you enjoyed the Easter break. There is so much to tell you this month - with our new partnership with XMA to provide assistive technology solutions for students who are eligible for the Government Home Access Grant; and also the exciting news regarding the Education Resource Awards.

Home Access Pilot Scheme

Home Access Scheme

iansyst Ltd and XMA have gone into partnership to provide disabled students with assistive technology and training. The scheme is for those young people who are eligible for the new grant being piloted by the Government under the Home Access programme.

This exciting £300 million project is designed help level the ‘digital divide’ between those who have access to computer technology and the internet and those who do not. The pilot scheme is being trialled in the boroughs of Oldham and Suffolk and will be rolled out nationally from the end of 2009.

Education Resource Awards

This year saw many of our top-selling products again recognised at the Education Resource Awards for their innovative approach to enhancing learning. From Early Years reading development to supporting teenagers and adults with their writing tasks, these products highlight the best use of ICT to help dyslexic learners make the most of their abilities.

In the ‘Special Educational Needs ICT’ category the engaging and entertaining typing tutor, Nessy Fingers, came top while the Come Alive Phonics Sing and Play Pack was also recognised for its creativity and adaptability.

The highly-acclaimed WriteOnline was awarded the Secondary ICT award for the range of abilities and ages it can support. The judges were particularly impressed with WriteOnline’s online writing tools, including integrated text-to-speech, word prediction and Wordbar, that can encourage and stimulate writing and the generation of ideas.

Hard of Hearing

iansyst are broadening the portfolio of products suitable for a wider range of disabilities. The Royal National Institute of Deaf (RNID) suggests there are an estimated 9 million people in the UK who are deaf or hard of hearing.

iansyst are keen to help meet the needs of our customers by providing a variety of products for different disabilities. These include the Conversor range for people who are hard of hearing.

Conversor Listenor

The Conversor Listener is ideal for those people who do not wear a hearing instrument but require an additional boost to their hearing.

It provides the user with the option of a ‘zoom setting’ to focus on sounds to the front of the microphone by reducing surrounding noise. There’s also a ‘wide setting’ if required.

Conversor Portable FM Loop

The Conversor Portable FM Loop is designed to use with Telecoil-equipped hearing aids, cochlear implants and binaural headphones. It filters unwanted background noise, to enhance the level and clarity of sound for the user.
