Dyslexia friendly classrooms

[personal organiser]Dyslexic children should have an electronic dictionary and thesaurus because some dyslexic children find looking up dictionaries very hard. There should also be an alphabet strip on the desk of dyslexic children.

Children need times tables squares on the walls of the classroom to help them when they are doing maths. There should be folders with lots of different types of writing frames and mind maps so children can choose the one they need.

Most dyslexic children need a carpet in a classroom to stop echo and noise because distraction will slow dyslexic children down. Dyslexic children need to be kept away from chatty children because it can make them feel very frustrated when they cannot get their work done. There should be quiet corner in every classroom.

Teachers need to make the writing on the blackboard big so that when dyslexic children loose their place, they can find their place quicker. Dyslexic children also find it easier to copy off the blackboard if they are sitting in front of the board.

A teacher should explain to the other children why dyslexic children need alphabet strips and extra help from the teacher so that they do not get made a fool off.

A dyslexic friendly classroom is not complete without a dyslexic friendly teacher.
