Case Study - Jane

Background

Jane is in Year 7 in a mainstream comprehensive school. Her underlying general ability is below average and she is immature for her age. She has difficulty making friends and takes ‘refuge’ in the Learning Support Base during lunch and break times.

Strengths

Difficulties

Recommended Software/Hardware

  1. ‘NEO’ portable word processor, preloaded with the word prediction program 'Co-writer' to address her handwriting difficulties. It is lightweight and robust enough to be carried to her different lessons and with a long battery life doesn't have the hassle of frequent recharging. Jane can easily store her work within the numerous files until she is ready to print out the work at the Learning Support Base or at home.
  2. ‘Nessy Learning Program’ to work on her phonic skills. It is recommended that Jane works through this literacy scheme systematically with her teaching assistant during her withdrawal sessions.
  3. ‘Nessy GamesPlayer’ to use at home to consolidate the work from her withdrawal sessions.
  4. ‘Nessy Fingers’ to develop her typing skills. Jane is happy to work through this independently during the lunch in the Learning Support Base.
